Pearson watched as his side produced a poor performance on the way to a 1-0 defeat against Sheffield United in midweek and Pearson is glad to have an early opportunity to rectify the problem.
He told the club's official website: "The way I`m looking at this performance is to see whether we can improve our own performance.
"Sheffield United came here for a point and got three. That`s annoying and we gifted them a goal. With games like that, if you can`t win them you make sure you don`t lose and that is something we have managed to do at home this season.
"It will be a tough game and Portsmouth have some good players. They`ve had one or two good results of late and we`ll have to be near our best to beat them.
"We`ve got to be more positive. If we get a win it changes the complexion, but we`re at the wrong end of the table which isn`t what we are looking for."
