The Tigers and the Airliebirds will both be playing at the new super stadium, so Pearson could have a major monopoly on Hull sport.

However, he told the Hull Daily Mail: "I'm aware of the speculation but I want to make it clear I've no interest in buying Hull FC."

Pearson will be meeting the Super League club's fans to talk about the new stadium tonight, but the subject of taking them over is off the agenda.

He added: "They do have a massive role to play in the super stadium. In fact, it's absolutely vital to the entire project that the rugby club is successful.
"Fortunately, the deal the club has already struck with the Council should allow it to prosper and grow and, at the same time, retain total independence."
