"He had his opinions about certain things and I respected those opinions. There was no point arguing with him and there's no ill feeling between us.
"At the end of the day I'm sad to be leaving because I've had two great years at Hull.
"I was looking forward to the rest of this season and it's disappointing I haven't got the chance to see the job through. In particular, I was really excited by the prospect of managing Hull City at the new stadium but what's happened to me is what football is all about.
"You never know what's around the corner and I learned a long time ago that you never take anything for granted."
