Eyre To Return

The 28-year-old is being watched by Scunthorpe United manager Brian Laws, and could be in line for a second stay at Glanford Park.

The Hull-born attacker began his career as a trainee at Oldham Athletic, but made just 10 appearances for the Latics. During his time there he went on loan to Scunthorpe, and scored 8 goals in 9 games. This prompted the Iron to shell out £40,000 to sign him permanently in 1995. He went on to score 50 more goals in all competitions in a 4-year spell.

He then moved across the River Humber to join Warren Joyce's Hull City on a free transfer. He scored 19 goals in two seasons at Boothferry Park, but was released in a major overhaul after play-off defeat in 2001.

He went back to Oldham on a free, but has only scored 8 goals since his return to Boundary Park. He could now be set to leave the cash-strapped club, and Scunthorpe manager Brian Laws has confirmed his interest by saying: "John Eyre is one player who I have in mind."

Eyre would become the only ex-Tiger at Glanford Park, whereas Peter Taylor has Jamie Forrester, Paul Musselwhite and new signing Andy Dawson in his ranks.
