Goals from Ben Burgess and Jamie Forrester secured the 2-0 win against a York side who caused the promotion challengers few problems.

The Tigers were aided with a following wind in the first half and totally dominated proceedings. On ten minutes Stuart Green fired in from a free-kick, but York keeper Mark Ovendale was out quickly to save well.

Hull earned five early corners which all caused problems for the York defence, and Green was twice unlucky with long-range efforts.

York defender Chris Smith made an error 25 yards out and Forrester seized on his slip, but his shot was blocked by a flying leap from Brass, which appeared to strike the York player boss on the hand.

The Minstermen's solitary chance in the first period came when on-loan striker Jon Shaw charged down Paul Musselwhite's clearance. The ball ran out wide, and from a tight angle Shaw shot across goal. Lee Nogan retrieved the ball and his cross was headed over by Richard Cooper from a good position.

Just before the break Burgess sent Forrester in on goal but Ovendale was quickly out of his area and cleverly smothered the shot with a sliding block.

Moments later Stuart Elliott's header from Jason Price's running cross was inches wide, finding the sidenetting.

After the break wing-back Darren Edmondson twice got forward to fire in efforts on goal for York to give the home supporters some encouragement.

The Minstermen's dominance was short-lived with the Tigers soon regaining control. Having missed a number of chances in the first half the visitors finally went ahead through Burgess.

Elliott's cross from deep was headed on by Forrester and Burgess struck a sweet left-footed volley home from 20 yards before Ovendale had moved.

Hull doubled their lead on 68 minutes courtesy of a penalty. Brass and Forrester challenged for the ball from Prices' cross and referee Ilderton adjudged Brass to have pulled Forrester down.

The striker, back from injury, took the penalty himself firing home right-footed to the keeper's right.

Once two goals to the good, Hull contained the Minstermen with some ease and ran out comfortable winners.
