The game that's cost us our place in the Premier League

I think there is one thing to blame Dowie for yesterday and that was not pressing for 2-0. Before the game he said "It's about passing the ball with intensity, passing the ball positively but most of all it's about playing at a real tempo", none of which happened once we'd scored. The players were slowing the game down and time wasting in the first half, something Dowie should have told them not to do.

The equaliser I would pick on Dawson for. He should have been with Kilbane doubling up on Mears to stop the cross coming in. If he'd decided he would mark Paterson instead, he didn't get close enough to him to stop the goal happening. Sorry to see the injury that may well have ended his Premier League career, but on the flipside he can thank himself very fortunate that it lasted 55 games. Hope to see him back fit in our Championship squad next season.

The second goal I was livid about. How could the linesman tell that Fagan had encroached? I've only seen the MOTD highlights once and didn't notice but did the ref even pace out the 10 yards for Fagan? He's far too sly a player to be so stupid to stand 10 yards away and then run at the free kick before it was taken, surely he'd stood more than 10 yards away so he could get the run up and jump he wanted. One thing I did notice on MOTD was Fagan's reaction, saying "It's only because it's me". Referee Atkinson sent Fagan off less than 2 months ago at West Ham. As for the penalty, there was no foul but you can understand why the ref thought there was, and we've had a couple go our way this season from, ironically, Fagan going down in the box (at Arsenal and against West Ham) so can't complain too much about that.

The next penalty was two players reverting to type: Sonko walking back instead of busting a gut to get in position behind Mendy, and Mendy making a clumsy challenge in a defensive position.

Talk of "passion" is so overused I usually roll my eyes as soon as I hear it, but yesterday I would agree there was not enough passion or desire from most of our players to win the game, and they'd given it up completely once Burnley were 3-1 up. We were winning throw-ins deep inside the Burnley half, opportunities for our long-throwers to get it towards goal or for Geovanni or Bullard to receive it short and cross, but players simply couldn't be bothered to make the plays. Once that happened I knew to give up hope, of pulling the match back and of staying up.

We need to pick up 4, probably 5, more points than our rivals to escape relegation. From our remaining fixtures I can see us possibly taking 4-6 points in total, and I don't think the other teams are going to pick up no points at all so I have consigned myself to relegation already.
