That's Why We're Going Down

Biggest insult of the night: "Jan's face looked a complete mess" - that coming from the gorgeous Iain Dowie.

I don't know whether it's a lack of ability, ideas or confidence - probably all three - but so often, week after week, City work the ball into attacking positions then fail to deliver it into the box or get a shot on goal. It's so infuriating, they always just look for another pass instead of doing the thing the whole move is supposed to be working towards. And set pieces: Our own goal is more at threat on the break than the opposition's is when we have corners or long throws. That's why we're going down, as they sing.

We're now relying on West Ham to win to confirm our relegation, and although on Saturday we could be as good as down (6 points behind with 2 games remaining and worse goal difference) the [R] won't appear by City's name in the table until after our game at Wigan at the soonest. Which is a shame because we won't have chance to give the likes of Cooper and Cullen a no pressure run-out before they are in the first team proper next season.

I'm also interested in who might manage us over the summer and next season. I don't envisage Brown or Horton coming back. Parkin and Watkiss (and Russell) have been nothing more than mediocre lower-league managers; I can't see any of them being a Chris Hughton type appointment, but if so they might as well take over now. I suspect Dowie will be given a chance with a squad he'll have some (though not much) say in assembling.
