The goal came 10 minutes into the second half after Jon Parkin played a great through ball to substitute Fagan who made no mistake with his left-footed finish after a great first touch.

The Tigers nearly took the lead in the first few minutes as the ball fell to Stuart Elliott just inside the penalty area, but his powerful shot was palmed away by keeper Romain Larrieu.

Plymouth were having the majority of the position but they could not make it count with Lee Hodges coming the closest with a speculative effort from just outside the box going wide of the post.

Lilian Nalis nearly had his Plymouth side in front just before the break as Hull keeper Boaz Myhill rushed out but failed to collect the ball. The Plymouth midfielder fired a shot towards an open goal from 20 yards but Leon Cort kept the scores level as he managed to deflect the ball over the ball.

Parkin nearly doubled Hull's lead halfway through the second half as he controlled a good cross from substitute Mark Noble but he could not find the finish as his shot from inside the six-yard box flew off Larrieu for a corner.

Stuart Green then had a chance to put his side further in front but he fired a volley wide of the mark from inside the area.

Soon after, Plymouth substitute Bojan Djordjic nearly put his side on level terms but his deflected shot from inside of the area was superbly parried by keeper Myhill.

Elliott has a chance to score for Hull late on but his header inside the box was deflected wide.
