Scunthorpe moved up to 15th in the Championship after a derby day victory against a frustrated Hull side at the KC stadium. Both sides had several chances to take the lead but the winner came in the last minute of normal time through a Michael O'Connor strike.

The visitors had a chance to take the lead on the 20 minute mark as O'Connor floated in a cross from the right into the path of Freddie Sears but the West Ham loanee sent his first time effort wide of the mark from 12 yards.

Mark Cullen should have had his Hull side in front on the stroke of half-time as debutant James Harper managed to win the ball in midfield and play a neat through ball into the young foward, however, the Tigers striker could only send his left footed drive inches wide from 12 yards.

Eddie Nolan came close for the visitors just after the break as his curling right footed effort from 20 yards had to be well parried away by keeper Matt Duke

Chris Dagnall then had a great chance to take the lead for the Iron after Duke failed to deal with an in swinging cross from Sears but the ex Rochdale striker failed to hit the target from close range.

Scunthorpe then came even closer moments later as midfielder Martyn Woolford picked up the ball outside the box and fired a thunderous left-footed effort against the inside of the post from 20 yards.

Hull substitute Richard Garcia had a great chance to open the scoring just after the hour as the midfielder found himself one on one with keeper Joe Murphy but the Australian international failed to get any real power behind his shot, allowing Murphy to palm the ball to safety.

Niall Cannaan then had an equally good chance for the visitors but he failed to hit the target with a free header at the back post.

Sears was next to come close for Scunthorpe but his low right footed effort was well saved by Duke.

Harper then had a superb chance to win the game for the homeside as substitute Nick Barmby played in the midfielder with only the keeper the beat but the ex-Reading man could only send a tame shot into the arms of Murphy from 6 yards.

Ian Baraclough's men stole all three points in the 90th minute as Sears sent a low cross into the path of O'Connor whose first time right footed shot flew past the outstretched Duke and into the back of net from 10 yards.

Substitute Jonathan Forte could've doubled the visitors lead in injury time but his left footed effort flew just wide of the right hand post.
