Season Review: Chelsea

Last updated : 29 May 2009 By Paul Lagan
How did your season go? Did Chelsea finish where you expected them to?
Chelsea underperformed for much of the first half of the season. The regime under Felipe Luiz Scolari promised much but fizzled out around Christmas time. As a result finishing third was as good as it was possible to get. Guus Hiddink simply made Chelsea more Mourinho-esque - difficult to beat and happy to win 1-0.
The season's not over yet - still an FA Cup to play for.

Who was Chelsea's player of the year?
Ashley Cole without a doubt. He's won over the Chelsea crowd and it's no surprise he was Chelsea players' Player of the Year too.

Who were the best players you saw play against Chelsea?
Easy one this: Lionel Messi and Andrés Iniesta of Barcelona.

What did you make of Hull City?
My view reflects your points tally pre- and post-Christmas. Started off brilliantly but struggled later on.

Too many Championship players struggling to operate at the higher level. I think you need a few experienced Premier League players. Also Phil Brown should quit the singing on the pitch after losing to a Man Utd reserve side. Not very classy.

Where do you need to strengthen this summer?
Up front, without a doubt. Winning sides need four top-class strikers and Chelsea have two. One of them needs to be an out and out winger.

An extra midfielder with guile would help - Kaka fits the bill.

Who'll be on their way out?
Carvalho, Ballack and Ferreira could be sacrificed, alongside Mineiro and Hilario.

Chelsea's best 11 of the season?
Phew, a tough one this:
Cech
Bosingwa Terry Carvalho A. Cole
Lampard Essien J. Cole Ballack
Drogba Anelka
