Season Review: Bolton Wanderers

Last updated : 28 May 2009 By Matt Bottom
How did your season go? Did Bolton finish where you expected them to?
Our season was a big improvement on last year. We only just stayed up and were looking to build on that this season. I believe we have, and to finish 13th is a good achievement. However, the fans will be looking for something different next year and that is the challenge for Gary Megson and his players. The squad has had an overhaul and the club has been stabilised, but now the fans want to see a different mentality and the final piece of the plan come into place.

I think it was hard to predict a final position this year, but on the whole, most Bolton fans would have taken 13th before the season began.

Who was Bolton's player of the year?
Kevin Davies has won player of the year and rightly so. His performances are of the highest quality week in week out and our new captain is vital to our progression over the coming years. Gary Cahill also deserves a mention - the best defender in the Premiership not to have played for his country? I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

Who were the best players you saw play against Bolton?
Robbie Keane and Jo from Everton both had good games against us.

What did you make of Hull City?
A lot of Bolton fans have a massive soft spot for Hull City. Not only is Phil Brown manager but Jay Jay, Pedersen and Stelios have all recently worn the shirt. We have Jussi Jaaskelainen to thank for the 4 points we grabbed off Hull this year but I can safely say alot of Wanderers were cheering you on against Man Utd last weekend.

Where do you need to strengthen this summer?
We need a centre half, a left back, a central midfielder, right winger and striker.

Who'll be on their way out?
Nicky Hunt, Ebi Smolarek, Sebastien Puygrenier, Ariza Makukula, Ricardo Vaz Te and possibly one of Tamir Cohen, Danny Shittu, Andy O'Brien and Gavin McCann.

Bolton's best 11 of the season?
Jaaskelainen
Steinsson, Cahill, Samuel, Gardner
Muamba, McCann, Taylor
M. Davies, K. Davies
Elmander
