Ins And Outs

GOALKEEPERS
Boaz Myhill - Sure to remain as City's number 1 unless a huge bid comes in for him. Staying

Matt Duke
- Under contract for two more years and thought to be a capable understudy for Myhill, especially with Mark Prudhoe's coaching and more opportunities in the reserves after Sergio Leite's departure. Staying

LEFT BACKS
Andy Dawson - The only out and out left back "in the building" (can we still use that phrase?), and has signed a two-year deal. Staying

New signing
- Backup is required. Taylor's talks with Charlton and Crystal Palace may have held up the Alan Rogers deal, but that move could be resurrected. Coming

RIGHTS BACKS
Alton Thelwell - Signed a new contract so is sure to be given a chance. Staying

Mark Lynch
- Transfer listed and probably one of the wage bills the club would like to get rid of. Has good experience so should have clubs interested in him - if he's willing to leave. Going

Scott Wiseman - Probably isn't on big wages so another year to prove himself would be alright by City. A loan move would benefit him, and he can always be recalled if Thelwell's injury problems return. Staying

Robbie Stockdale - Already released. Going

CENTRE BACKS
Leon Cort - Never dropped and tied to a new deal. Staying

Damien Delaney - Signed a new contract, but his versatility may make him more of a squad player when the injury casualties return. Staying

Danny Coles - Bound to be a first team regular if he recaptures the form he enjoyed after signing. May find someone has already claimed his place by the time he returns from injury, so will have to wait patiently to get back in the team. Staying

Sam Collins - A fourth centre back is required, although Big Sam may not be happy with playing a bit part role and could seek a move back to a League One side. Going

New signing - If Collins goes, City will be left short in the centre back department. A young up-and-coming defender may be happy to come in as a backup - even Michael Byron from the youth team could be nearing the first team squad. However, an old head would be good for the still relatively inexperienced trio of Cort, Delaney and Coles. Coming

MIDFIELDERS
Ian Ashbee - Made an impressive start to life in the Championship and was missed when injured. His new contract would indicate he's going nowhere, even though the man who gave him the captaincy on a full time basis is. Staying

Keith Andrews - May lose his place to Ash, and he might not want to stay as a reserve team player, but he has the potential to win his position back. Staying

John Welsh - Showed real signs of quality at times, and 2006/07 could be the season he becomes our midfield lynchpin. Staying

Russell Fry - Doesn't look good for the youngster with the players ahead of him, and he could be forced to start his career in a lower division. Going

Stuart Green - Depends which Stuart Green the new manager sees - the creative, goalscoring midfielder worthy of a free role in the centre of the park, or the petulant, work-shy bottler he has sometimes been accused of. Sure to go if another attacking midfielder is brought in, or if Nick Barmby takes up that role. This could be make or break year for Greeny. Going

LEFT WINGERS
Stuart Elliott
- A new manager could be the change needed to rejuvinate Elliott after a disappointing first season in the Championship. Could even be used in a more attacking role. Staying

Kevin Ellison - If he's willing to go - and Tranmere may make a more appealing move than Scunthorpe - City are bound to cash in and reclaim the money paid for him. Going

New signing - If Ellison goes and Elliott continues to fail to fire on all cylinders, a new option on the left flank is needed. Coming

RIGHT WINGERS
Ryan France - Needs to find a position he can master, and the opportunity is there on the right wing. Staying

New signing - Even if France does show he can do the business on the right wing, City will still need to bolster their options in this position. Coming

FORWARDS
Jon Parkin - Likely to start as the first choice, at least until Ben Burgess regains full fitness, but must work to keep his place after his form tailed off at the end of the season. Staying

Darryl Duffy - City will want to see what they paid over £250,000 for, and he has no excuses now after plenty of time to find his feet. Staying

Craig Fagan - All depends on what kind of role the new manager would like him to play - substitute or winger seems more likely than leading striker. Going

Ben Burgess - Has shown he can do a job at least in this division even when only half-fit in the early stages of the 2005/06 season, and has the best goalscoring record of any of our forwards, as well as the other things he brings to the team. He needs to get his fitness back and take his chance though. Staying

Steve McPhee - City have put a lot of faith in him by spending so much on signing him and then giving him a new contract despite being injured for almost his entire Tigers career so far. The club won't give up that investment without some return. Staying

Billy Paynter - The least likely to lead City's attack unless he makes an impression in pre-season. Could be sent back to Port Vale. Going

AND FINALLY...
Nick Barmby - May finally be given the creative freedom not given to him by Taylor, and the new manager may build his team around him.
