Player Ratings: Hull City 0-0 Hartlepool (3-2 on penalties)

Last updated : 24 September 2006 By Andy Beill
Boaz Myhill (8) - Made a few fairly comfortable saves during the match, as well as two in the penalty shoot-out.

Sam Ricketts (6) - Still doesn't support our right winger enough and get close enough. Had a couple of half-decent shots on goal.

Andy Dawson (7) - Had the composure to score the winning penalty.

Sam Collins (7) - Solid if unspectacular, as usual.

Michael Turner (7) - Fine.

Ryan France (6) - Wasn't involved much before being substituted.

Mark Yeates (6) - Played some good balls to the opposite flank. Set himself up for a great chance after beating two men, but wasted it with a poor shot. Not likely to start the next game on this showing.

John Welsh (7) - Got involved with a few good slide tackles and staked his claim, but Parkinson will revert to Livermore and Ashbee when possible.

Dean Marney (6) - Failed to set anything up or force any saves, but not for a lack of trying. Works hard but really needs a bit of luck to give him the confidence to get a run of form.

Nick Barmby (6) - Came close to scoring in the first half. Otherwise, struggled to get into positions where he could threaten the opposition.

Craig Fagan (7) - Always looked to drift out wide instead of sticking to a central striking position. Did badly with a couple of scoring opportunities after being swapped to the wing. Was suffering with cramp for the last five minutes of extra time but did well to shake it off and take a good penalty.

Subs
Jon Parkin (6) - Managed to look a little bit like a Third Division striker at times, and didn't do well with shooting opportunities. It wasn't coming off for him until he took his penalty to give us the lead in the shoot-out.

Stuart Elliott (5) - Last we'll have seen of him for a while. Penalty was very predictable and the keeper had obviously learnt where he likes to put them to make an easy save. Confidence will be even lower now, if that's possible.

Darryl Duffy (5) - Missed two sitters, and then had his penalty saved. Not good enough.
