Horton left Port Vale in February after five years at the helm. He has previously managed Hull City, Oxford, Manchester City, Huddersfield and Brighton.

He now takes over the reigns at Moss Rose from John Askey. Askey's been in charge since David Moss left in October, but after leading them to 2nd from bottom in the table he returns to his position as assistant manager.

Horton has signed until the end of the season with the sole priority of saving the Silkmen's place in the league.
