Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has revealed that he had a bid for Cambridge United striker Dave Kitson rejected last week but Cambridge has denied receiving any bid for the player.

Carlisle United chairman John Courtenay has been sentenced to 150 hours community service for his part in a brawl that occurred in last seasons encounter with Lincoln City. Courtenay was also ordered to pay £800 in costs and a further £50 in compensation. Meanwhile the club have agreed a deal with Walsall to bring striker Matty Fryatt on loan to the club in a month long deal but midfielder Stefan Oakes rejected a similar deal.

Leyton Orient have secured David Hunt on a new contract that runs until June 2006. The midfielder was entitled to new a deal when a clause was activated in his original contract.

Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock has denied reports that he is set to make a bid for Mansfield Town midfielder Liam Lawrence. Lawrence has hit 11 goals so far this season and was rumoured to be the man Warnock wanted to replace Michael Brown who is being linked with a move to Scottish champions Rangers.

Nicky Law is the latest name to be linked with vacant managerial position at Southend United. Law has been without a job since being sacked by Bradford last month. The Roots Hall club were rejected permission to talk with Oxford United boss Ian Atkins earlier this month as they look to find Steve Wignall's successor.

Huddersfield Town boss Peter Jackson has been hit with more injury news after learning that midfielder Tony Carss is set to miss the next two months. Carss - struggling with a knee injury - was told to rest immediately after having an examination on his knee. However Jackson has received a boost after it was confirmed that defender Nathan Clarke will only miss one match after his red card during the game against Macclesfield Town.

Former Bury player-manager Andy Preece has made an immediate return to the game after agreeing a contract with strugglers Carlisle United until the end of the season.

York City midfielder Lee Bullock is being watched by Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock after some impressive displays this season. Bullock is already rumoured to be interesting a host of clubs including Norwich City, Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City.

Kidderminster Harriers director of football Jan Molby has revealed that he is still confident of completing a deal with free agent Adam Murray.

Boston United have had a bid to extend the loan deal of Adam Boyd accepted by Second Division Hartlepool. Boyd has scored twice during his first month at the club and will now stay at York Street until mid-January.

Oxford United boss Ian Atkins has been looking at two trialists this week as he looks to improve his squad in a bid to secure promotion. Matthew Brazier - transfer listed at his own request at Leyton Orient - played in a reserve match in a bid to impress Atkins as did Avon Jephcott. The youngster came through the ranks at First Division Coventry City and only signed his first professional contract with the club back in February.

Doncaster Rovers boss Dave Penney has extended the loan deal of Wolves midfielder JJ Melligan for a further month.

Scunthorpe United manager Brian Laws is keen to secure the long term future of promising youngster Andy Butler. The 20-year old made his impressed everybody at the club since making his first-team debut back in September.
