Despite earlier reports, Southend United will not be making Stan Collymore their new manager. The club have now officially approached Oxford United for permission to speak with United manager Ian Atkins. However, early reports suggest that the approach for has already been rejected by the Oxford board. Atkins has always been linked with the job at Roots Hall along with Collymore but many have doubted whether he would leave his position at the table toppers for a side struggling in the same league.

York City are trying to extend their lease at Bootham Crescent in order to secure a ground for next season. Their current deal ends in May 2004 and with delays expected with the proposed 6,135-capacity stadium to share with rugby league club York City Knights, the Minstermen have had to try and secure an extended deal at their current ground.

Cambridge United manager has been hit with the news that top scorer Dave Kitson is set to be ruled out for a month. The 23-year old striker has a pulled hamstring and Taylor has already indicated that he would like to bring in a new striker as cover.

Swansea City vice-chairman Leigh Dineen has declared that striker Lee Trundle is not for sale at any price. Swans boss Brian Flynn has extended the loan deal of Manchester United defender Alan Tate. Tate will stay on at the club for another month but fellow United player Daniel Nardiello has returned to Old Trafford.

Dave Penney has signed a new contract at Doncaster Rovers until the end of the 2005-06 season. Penney guided Rovers to promotion via the play-offs in the Conference last season and has been rewarded for the good start his side have made this season. His assistant - Mickey Walker - has also agreed terms on a new deal with the club. Meanwhile on-loan striker Chris Brown will face a spell on the sidelines after breaking his toe during the victory over Boston.

Yeovil Town midfielder Darren Way will be out for at least three weeks after scans revealed a stress fracture in his leg.

Goalkeeper Sam Russell has returned to Middlesbrough after his loan spell at Scunthorpe United ended. Russell spent three months at Glanford Park making a total of 12 appearances for the Iron.

Matt Carbon has returned to Walsall after his loan deal expired at Lincoln City. However, the Imps have not ruled out a return to Sincil Bank for the defender once he returns to fitness. The 28-year old only managed to play 45 minutes during his time with the club and it will another couple of weeks before he has fully recovered from the shoulder injury he suffered whilst playing against the Tigers back in October. Meanwhile, City midfielder has joined Stockport County for two weeks with a view to a permanent move.

Carlisle United have signed central defender Kevin Gray from Second Division side Tranmere Rovers. Gray has signed an 18-month contract with the Cumbrians.

Macclesfield Town caretaker boss John Askey has signed former Port Vale defender Matthew Carragher. Carragher, equally happy at right back or centre back, has been playing for Stafford Rangers but has now signed a three-month deal with the Silkmen to get back into League football.

Cheltenham Town boss John Ward has lost the services of midfielder Richard Forsyth for three weeks. Forsyth had to be substituted during the 2-1 victory over Carlisle with a strained hamstring. The 33-year old has suffered with a number of different injuries throughout this season.

Lee Ayres has been released by Kidderminster Harries Director of Football Jan Molby. Ayres has featured in the first team for over a month since returning from a loan spell with Tamworth.

Rochdale striker Paul Conner has targeted the derby match with Bury on December 13 to make his long awaited return. Connor has been sidelined for the last month with a broken foot.

Huddersfield Town boss Peter Jackson has denied reports in the press linking striker Jonathan Stead with a move to Nottingham Forest. Stead has scored 14 goals so far this season and the club have already turned down two bids from Sunderland for the 20-year old.

Carlton Palmer, who was sacked as player-manager of Second Division Stockport earlier this season, has been training with Darlington.

Boston United have been linked with moves for Ipswich youngsters Matt Bloomfield and Chris Hogg. Both midfielder Bloomfield and defender Hogg have been told by Ipswich boss Joe Royle that they can leave Portman Road for free.
