Carlisle Shock Huddersfield

Peter Duffield - making his Carlisle debut after joining on loan from Boston - scored the 72nd minute goal that gave them a 1-0 victory against Huddersfield at Brunton Park. The Terriers therefore missed the chance to go 2nd in the table, while Carlisle are now only 9 points from safety.

Darlington - who had spent much of the season in the bottom two with Carlisle - are remarkably now 14th after picking up their 6th win in 8 games tonight. Goals from David McGurk (14) and Barry Conlon (39) gave them a 2-0 lead over visitors Cheltenham, who have been enjoying good form themselves. Gavin McCann gave the Robins a chance with a goal just before half time, but the hosts held on for 3 points.

Scunthorpe comprehensively beat York 3-1 at Bootham Crescent, leaving the Minstermen without a win in eleven games. Midfielder Paul Groves - making his second start since joining on loan from Grimsby - got a 17th minute opener. Steve MacLean celebrated his return to the scoresheet on Saturday with another goal this evening, putting away a penalty in the 33rd minute. Jamie McCombe was sent off within 5 minutes of coming on as a half time substitute, but Groves was on target again to extend the lead further and ease Scunny's worries in the 55th minute. York substitute Andrew Bell denied Tommy Evans a clean sheet when he lobbed the United 'keeper after he failed to clear properly outside his area 14 minutes from time. Despite winning, the Iron remain 13th, while City slip a place to 17th.

In the other game this evening, Rochdale came within 12 minutes of claiming a win at Swansea's Vetch Field. Leo Bertos scored his 7th goal of the season midway through the first half, but half time substitute Brad Maylett levelled in the 78th minute.

That's it for midweek games this week. The next round of matches is on Saturday when league leaders Doncaster host Cheltenham. Hull City take on rivals Scunthorpe at the KC Stadium, while Carlisle will be hoping to emulate tonight's result when Oxford go to Cumbria. Huddersfield face Macclesfield, while two promotion hopefuls, Lincoln and Mansfield, meet up at Sincil Bank.
