Yeates, born in Dublin, links up again with City boss Phil Parkinson, who was his manager during his loan spell at Colchester last season.
He's previously had short term loan spells at Brighton and Swindon, as well as making four first team appearances for Tottenham.
He'll become one of four ex-Spurs players at the club, along with Dean Marney, Alton Thelwell and Nick Barmby.
