Ellison has chosen a £50,000 move to Tranmere over Scunthorpe and Chester, who had both made £100,000 bids. He's signed a two-year contract, and makes the move back to his Liverpool roots.

He told Tranmere's official website: "I'm pleased to be signing for a club like Tranmere. There were a few clubs interested in me but once I found out Tranmere were interested, this was the place I wanted to be."

The left winger started 28 games and came on 13 times, scoring twice, after joining from Chester for £100,000 in January 2005.

He's joined by Stockdale, who joins on a free transfer after his City contract came to an end this summer. The defender hasn't played for City since April 2005, and since then has been stuck in City's reserves and a brief loan spell at Darlington. The 26-year-old made a total of 12 starts for City after joining from Rotherham United in February 2004, and links up with former Millers manager Ronnie Moore again at Prenton Park.

Ellison and Stockdale will be back at the KC Stadium for Tranmere's Carling Cup first round game with City. That's expected to be played on Tuesday 22nd August, and will also see Ian Goodison and Delroy Facey return to Hull for one night only.
