TT Podcast- Football League preview

Last updated : 01 August 2011 By Team Talk

Our men focus on the Championship season ahead and discuss whether big-spending Leicester and newly-relegated West Ham are worthy favourites. But with a vested interest in football lower down the league ladder, Bantams fanatic Matty and Argyle loon Jon also anyalse the runners and riders in Leagues One and Two.

Both pundits like the look of Sven-Goran Eriksson's fancied Foxes and Jon is sure Middlesbrough will do a lot better this time around, while Forest are tipped to enjoy a good season under Steve McClaren.

Matty likes the look of Paul Jewell's Ipswich and thinks Hull could mount a promotion challenge after some eye-catching pre-season results.

Southampton also gain some admiring glances and they both think there could be some value in the Championship's top goalscorer market.

At the other end of the table Coventry look all set for a season of struggle, according to Jon and Matty says Peterborough - without Craig Mackail-Smith - also look like having their work cut out.

The duo agree that Huddersfield are worthy League One favourites, but aren't too keen on Sheffield Wednesday.

Jon likes the look of Phil Brown's Preston and Matty thinks Brentford and Charlton could both be interesting propositions next season, and both agree Stevenage look like 'certs' to face the drop back into the fourth tier.

League Two favourites Crawley look 'too short' at 5/2, according to Matty but he does concede they look to have plenty of firepower.

Matty tips up a Bantams striker to top score in the division at a hefty price and thinks a top-seven finish for Bradford would be a good season after last season's debacle under Peter Taylor.

Matty and Jon both think Oxford could be the team to get on at 11/1 and Matty thinks Southend will have a good season with Neil Harris on board.

Jon runs the rule over his beloved Plymouth and forecasts a season of rebuilding at Home Park, while Barnet look all set to be battling the drop once again.
