Defenders Andy Dawson and Alton Thelwell, attackers Danny Allsopp and Jason Price, and utility player Richard Hinds all joined up with the survivors of last season's squad for the first time when pre-season training began yesterday.
And Taylor says that the squad he has assembled should be challenging for honours this season: "I've told my players that I believe I have the best squad of players in our division. Now, it's up to us to prove that.
Training for Promotion
"We've got to be honest and we've got to be together but I think I've got a tremendous bunch of players to work with. I feel very good about the coming season.
"I know people will have heard it before but I think the players we've brought in will make the different and will help us get promotion."
Although the squad is now without the likes of Gary Bradshaw, Lee Philpott and Lawrie Dudfield, the five new signings bring the player-count up to 29 and so Taylor is looking to lower the wagebill if offers come in.
He said: "If there's a player not in the team and who feels he can get first team football elsewhere then I owe it to my chairman - and to the player - to consider any offers.

"That doesn't mean I'm about to sell someone like Ben Burgess or Ian Ashbee or Stuart Elliott - not a chance. I'd be crazy to do that and it's not going to happen."
