Goals from Corry Evans and Robert Koren helped secure Hull a 2-1 win at fellow play-off chasers Watford on Saturday, which lifted them to within five points of the top six with half a dozen games remaining.
Shakespeare said: "We're running out of games in terms of being where we want to be, which is why it was important to get the response that we got from the players at the weekend."
The Tigers have the best away record in the npower Championship this season, securing 34 points from 20 games so far on their travels.
