Fryatt, 25, scored nine goals in 23 appearances for the Tigers last season following his arrival in January from Leicester, but had notched only twice in his last 13 games prior to his solo effort that clinched a 1-0 win for Hull.

Pearson said: "I'm aware of the fact that Matty has had a bit of criticism, but he is always getting himself into goal-scoring positions.

"That was a quality finish on Saturday. He made the opportunity for himself and it was nice that he got the goal."

Fryatt added: "Last week I thought about the chance and that complicated things and it didn't go good for me.

"I got a bit of flak from the TV people and some were unnecessary opinions. Some people are over critical at times, but you have to keep believing in your own ability."
