Three To Depart

As previously reported, defender Greg Strong is moving to Boston United. He signed on a free transfer today, thought to be keeping him at York Street until 2006.

Boston were also tracking John Anderson, but he may now go to Second Division strugglers Grimsby Town. They want to sign him until the end of the current season when his Hull City contract is to expire. However, the Scottish centre back is thought to be looking for a longer term deal so may turn down the move and try to win back his Tigers place. He's not played a first team game since last season.

Grimsby's new manager Nicky Law is also hoping to sign Anderson's team-mate Alan Fettis on loan. The Mariners' number one Aidan Davison - who played 10 times in a loan spell at City in the 1996/97 season - is serving a three-match suspension, while backup 'keeper Andy Pettinger has a broken finger. Northern Ireland international Fettis is currently third choice at City behind Boaz Myhill and Paul Musselwhite after returning from a loan spell at Sheffield United. Doncaster Rovers, Colchester United and Macclesfield Town are also interested in last season's Division Three goalkeeper of the year, who Peter Taylor is keen to get off the wagebill.

Taylor has recently offloaded Daniel Webb to Cambridge and Shaun Smith to Rochdale. As well as Anderson, Justin Whittle, Andy Holt, Carl Regan, Nathan Peat, Steve Burton and goalkeeper Musselwhite are out of contract in June. Although Taylor isn't going to start negotiations with any players until the end of the season, it's understood that Holt and Peat are to be offered extensions while the others are still to prove their worth.

Elsewhere, Taylor has revealed he was interested in signing Paul Groves prior to bringing in Junior Lewis. Groves instead went to Scunthorpe on loan from Grimsby where he was sacked as manager but still has a playing contract.
