Harpal Singh ran the length of the pitch to make the win safe 8 minutes from time - his first goal since joining on loan from Leeds at the start of the season.

Huddersfield Town 2-1 Carlisle United (attendance: 9,059)
Carlisle keeper Matt Glennon's heroics denied the home side from scoring until Andy Booth's deflected shot in the 38th minute. Jon Worthington then hit the bar before team-mate Jon Stead doubled the lead on the stroke of half time. The two sides came out for the second half with one less player after Steve Yates and Richie Foran came to blows in the tunnell. Darren Kelly (74) pulled one back and they twice hit the woodwork, but the Terriers survived the late scare to hold onto the points.

Macclesfield Town 1-2 Southend United (attendance: 1,821)
Southend move out of the drop zone with their second away win of the season. Town keeper Steve Wilson then gave away a penalty just before the hour which Jay Smith despatched for his first of the season. Colin Little scored an injury time consolation, but his side sit precariously low in the table.
