Last updated : 13 October 2003 By Andy Beill
Boston United 3-1 Cheltenham Town (attendance: 2,283)
Cheltenham led through a Grant McCann free kick in the 22nd minute, but Boston hit back with goals from Tom Bennett (28), Stuart Balmer (33) and Mark Angel (57). The visitors had no way back after goalkeeper Steve Book was sent off, although Boston couldn't beat forward Damien Spencer who went in goal. The closing stages were played with ten against ten when Bennett was given his marching orders.

Cambridge United 1-2 Bury (attendance: 5,106)
Lee Connell (32) and Chris Porter (39) earned Bury the 3 points. Andy Duncan gave Cambridge hope of a comeback witha a goal 10 minutes from time, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation. Bury go a place above Cambridge in the table.

Darlington 0-4 Bristol Rovers (attendance: 4,268)
Darlington's usual home form was nowhere to be seen as the Pirates romped to victory. Lewis Haldane (38) and David Savage (64) got the ball rolling before substitute Andy Rammell added another two. Rovers sit just a point outside the play-off zone.

Huddersfield Town 1-0 Torquay United (attendance: 9,117)
Tony Carss' 30-yard volley was worthy of all three points as Huddersfield edge their way above Torquay in the table.

Kidderminster Harriers 1-2 Southend United (attendance: 2,429)
Kidderminster were twice punished for switching off and got nothing out of the game. Mark Warren put Southend ahead seconds before half time, but JJ Melligan looked like he had got the Harriers a point six minutes from time. However, Tes Bramble came off the bench and then scored two minutes later to win the game in stoppage time.

Leyton Orient 1-2 Swansea City (attendance: 4,393)
It took Lee Trundle just 9 minutes of this match to get his 12th goal of the season, although the league's top scorer later went off injured. Kevin Nugent added a second, but Chris Tate's late header denied the Swans a clean sheet.

Macclesfield Town 1-3 Doncaster Rovers (attendance: 2,831)
Martin Carruthers gave the Silkmen the lead in the 17th minute, but Greg Blundell restored parity for Rovers on the stroke of half time with a long range effort. The visitors then took control of the game in the second half, with Paul Green giving them the lead 4 minutes in. Michael McIndoe (53) sealed it with a penalty soon after, moving them into the play-off zone. Town's misery was compounded when Steve McAuley lashed out in injury time and was shown the red card.

Mansfield Town 2-0 York City (attendance: 4,914)
Goals either side of half time from Dave Artell (31) and Chris Beardsley (76) make it four successive wins for Mansfield as they keep up the pressure on league leaders Hull City.

Oxford United 1-0 Yeovil Town (attendance: 6,301)
Steve Basham's 13th minute strike was enough for three points, firing in his 8th goal of the season from close range. The Glovers had nothing to show for a second half comeback and so slip to 8th.

Rochdale 1-1 Northampton Town (attendance: 2,710)
Following a goalless first half, Martin Smith scored for Northampton 6 minutes after the break. But Kevin Townson denied them the chance of their first win in six with a 72nd minute goal.

Scunthorpe United 1-3 Lincoln City (attendance: 5,045)
Ben Futcher (5) and Gary Fletcher (30) gave the Imps the lead in this Lincolnshire derby, but they then made it difficult for themselves by having Mark Bailey sent off 11 minutes before half time. However, they still managed another goal in the second half from Francis Green (57), and Paul Hayes' 71st minute header wasn't enough to spark a Scunthorpe comeback.

Top played bottom today; here's what happened:

Hull City 2-1 Carlisle United (attendance: 19,050)
Ben Burgess gave City the lead with a 13th minute header - his 7th goal of the season. Danny Allsopp hit the post, but Carlisle hit back in the second half through Will McDonagh (59). However, Lee Andrews was sent off 2 minutes later for bringing down Burgess just outside the box, and former Carlisle midfielder Stuart Green hit the bar from the free kick. The Tigers finally managed to get themselves back in front in the 75th minute, with Jamie Forrester coming off the bench and scoring for the second week running.
