Lynch was taken out of the game on Saturday by QPR forward Paul Furlong inside the opening minute, leaving him with a dislocated knee. Early fears that the right-back will be out for the season seem unlikely, but he is expected to be out for around three months.

The 23-year-old had been signed from Sunderland to solve City's long time right-back problem, but Taylor must now re-address the issue. On Saturday he moved Danny Coles to the right and brought Damien Delaney off the bench to play at centre back.

Ideally he may prefer a natural right-back though. With Robbie Stockdale also injured and Alton Thelwell not match fit, that only leaves young Scott Wiseman, who has only ever started two league games for the club.

If Taylor doesn't fancy risking the 19-year-old in a high pressure derby match, he may instead go for Marc Joseph. Although naturally a centre back, Joseph has played many games at full back and may step in again.

There don't appear to be any other injury problems to deal with, but Taylor may opt to rotate his squad to give some players a chance and rest others so soon after the first game of the season. Keith Andrews, Curtis Woodhouse, Roland Edge and Craig Fagan are among those knocking at the manager's door for a call-up.

Expected line-up (4-4-2): Myhill; Joseph, Cort, Coles, Dawson; France, Ashbee, Woodhouse, Elliott; McPhee, Barmby.
Subs: Leite, Delaney, Andrews, Green, Fagan.

Tickets are on sale until 3pm tomorrow. Entry will not be allowed without a ticket, and none will be available at Hillsborough on the night.
