Ben Burgess - scored 7th of the season early on
Andy Holt was in the side in place of Stuart Elliott who is on international duty, while Damien Delaney recovered from a hamstring injury to play.

City were off the mark after only 12 minutes from ex-Carlisle player Stuart Green's outswinging corner. Ben Burgess met it unmarked and put a looping header past former City goalkeeper Matt Glennon.

Danny Allsopp came close to doubling the lead with a low shot from a tight angle, but it came back off the post.

Carlisle struggled with a number of other City corners but Glennon didn't have any to save. They were battling to stay in it, and had four players in the referee's book when they went in at half time 1-0 down.

Just before the hour mark, they pulled the score back to 1-1. Peter Murphy played it back to William McDonagh on the edge of the box, and he curled a shot past Paul Musselwhite.

But things went wrong for the visitors a couple of minutes later as they went down to ten men. Lee Andrews was adjudged to have fouled Ben Burgess as he ran through on goal, and a red card was shown to the defender. From the free kick, Green attempted a replica of his strike against Kidderminster but hit the bar.

Jamie Forrester - scores after coming on for second successive week
City were struggling to break down the ten men from Carlisle, and so brought on Jamie Forrester and Alton Thelwell with 20 minutes to go.

5 minutes later, that decision paid dividends as City regained the lead. Forrester was first to Jason Price's deflected cross, and volleyed in mid air from six yards out past Glennon.

Carlisle replaced forward Richie Foran with Kevin Henderson, and Mr. Fletcher's red card was produced again. Immediately after the switch, Foran was shown his second yellow card for dissent and was sent down the tunnel.

The ten men were causing City problems at the back but failed to test Musselwhite.

At the other end, Ben Burgess put a header just wide, while Des Byrne's long-range effort for Carlisle wasn't far away.

But City held on for an unspectacular three points in front of a 19,050 KC Stadium crowd, extending their winning streak to five games.

City line-up (4-4-2): Musselwhite; Hinds (Thelwell), Whittle, Delaney, Dawson; Price (France), Ashbee, Green, Holt (Forrester); Burgess, Allsopp.
Un-used subs: Fettis, Keates.
