The 27-year-old fell on his elbow, and was sent straight to hospital where he had an operation this afternoon.

He had only just recovered from an ankle injury, and would have been available to play on Saturday after completing a three-match suspension. However, with the current form of Justin Whittle and John Anderson he wasn't expected to come back into the side anyway.

Jan Molby said: "It's hard to say how long he'll be out for at this moment in time but it would appear to be a minimum eight weeks and could be longer if the damage turns out to be worse when the surgeon has a look at it properly."

Meanwhile Lawrie Dudfield has recovered from a knee injury and Stuart Green has completed his ban, so both return to the fold for the visit of Carlisle on Saturday.
