Jamie Forrester - breaks City duck but it's not enough for 3 points
The Iron had the better of the first half play, but although putting a few shots just wide of Alan Fettis' goal they had no real clearcut chances.

City stood up to the home side's attacks well, and started to get into the game before half time, with Justin Whittle having a header saved on the line in stoppage time.

City continued their pressure after the break, and Whittle again had a shot cleared off the line.

However, Scunthorpe took the lead against the run of play in the 50th minute. A corner was cleared, and Paul Hayes turned past Carl Regan on the halfway line. Last gasp challenges from Shaun Smith and Ian Ashbee weren't enough to stop him, and he fired past Fettis to make it 1-0.

Alex Calvo-Garcia then claimed to have been brought down in the box by Whittle, but the Spaniard was booked for diving.

The introduction of Stuart Elliott as a substitute just after the hour sparked some energy into City, and Jamie Forrester put the Tigers on level terms with a goal against his old side. He took control of a loose ball, and his lob went over Tommy Evans and into the net, with a little help from a deflection.

City went looking for a winner and Elliott came close, but couldn't connect properly when stretching to reach Carl Regan's far post cross.

It was a let off for the home side, and they then made City pay by going up the other end and scoring. Alan Fettis could only get a hand to Peter Beagrie's cross, and Matthew Sparrow nodded in the rebound.

Sparrow then finished the game off in style with another goal 8 minutes from time. City's defenders couldn't get the ball off him as he dribbled his way into the box, before shooting past Fettis and making it 3-1.

City line-up (5-3-2): Fettis; Regan, Joseph, Whittle, Delaney, Smith (Melton 83); Williams (Elliott 62), Ashbee, Keates; Webb, Forrester (Dudfield 83).
Un-used subs: Musselwhite, Burton.
