Jay Smith - snubs the Tigers to sign for Southend
Smith has been on loan at Roots Hall this season, and after Aston Villa agreed to release him on a free transfer it was between City and the Shrimpers to sign him.

The 21-year-old chose to stick with United after they gave him the opportunity to play first team football.

"Southend gave me the chance to show what I could do in league football so I felt I wanted to stay.
"The gaffer gave me a great opportunity so I want to give something back to him and the fans as well because they've been really good to me."

Meanwhile Peter Taylor has been able to secure midfielder Steve Melton's services, signing him for a month from Brighton on loan, while defender Marc Joseph's move from Peterborough will go through tomorrow.
