Smith Interests Rochdale

The transfer-listed left-back - who will be 33 next month - hasn't played a league game for City this season and has been out on short loan spells at Stockport and Carlisle. Neither of those deals materialised into permanent stays, but he could be given a Football League lifeline by Rochdale.

The former Crewe stalwart is training with Steve Parkin's side, who are fourth from bottom in Division Three. If all goes well then he could even be back playing at the KC Stadium in three weeks time wearing 'Dale colours when they take on City. He'd be allowed to move on a free transfer, and his contract is up at the end of the season anyway.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Alan Fettis has returned to Hull after his loan stay at Sheffield United ended. He appeared in just three games for the Blades.
