Reserves Stalemate

Preston brought a very youthful team to Church Road, while City's side was also mainly made up of juniors and rookies Nathan Peat and Clayton Donaldson. The exceptions were Paul Musselwhite in goal and Jamie Forrester up front, making a welcome re-appearance in a Hull City shirt after his move to Bristol Rovers fell through. The club's youth recruitment officer Neil Mann also started the game. The midfielder hung up his boots last season, and was playing for the first time since his testimonial in the summer.

On the field, City had the better of the few chances in an uneventful first half, while neither side could make the breakthrough after half time either.

City's reserves next play on Monday at Barnsley.

City line-up: Musselwhite; O'Neil, Byron, Wiseman, Peat; Russell, Tomlinson, Mann, Cooper; Forrester (Larvin 62), Donaldson.
Un-used subs: Harvey, Matthews, Beattie, Cattermole.
