After being knocked out of the cup with a 4-0 defeat at Shrewsbury on Tuesday, they needed a good result, and they got it today.

City's first came against the run of play when Tom Matthews opened in the 25th minute. After that they began to dominate and Jon Walters headed a second before half time.

Walters then set up the third goal for Alistair Benson to score 4 minutes into the second half.

Preston missed chances before conceding again, with Clayton Donaldson finishing from Aaron Wilbraham's pass.

Wilbraham closed the scoring with the rebound from his own saved penalty to make it 5-0 - the same scoreline City beat Preston by at Church Road a month ago.

City line-up: Duke; Matthews, Byron, Wiseman, Cattermole; Donaldson, McGarry, Fry, Benson; Wilbraham, Walters.
