Taylor, currently thought to be at the World Cup in Germany, is tipped to beat Luton's Mike Newell into getting the job at Selhurst Park.

City chairman Adam Pearson's silence speaks volumes, and Palace are expected to publicly reveal the appointment this week.

Taylor has been Hull City manager since October 2002, and has one year left on his contract. Crystal Palace, who lost to Watford in the Championship play-off semi-finals last month, would have to pay compensation of around £250,000 to City if they appoint him.
