Carl Regan put City in front early in the second half after coming on as a substitute, but Town youngsters John McAliskey and Michael Tunnacliffe hit back to put the home side in the lead.

After City had dominated it would have been harsh for them to lose, and substitute Clayton Donaldson was one player who missed good chances.

But midfielder Steve Melton popped up late on to smash home the equaliser and get City's reserve season started with a 2-2 draw in front of 363 at the McAlpine Stadium.

City line-up: Harvey, Byron, Smith, Burton, Wiseman (Regan), Holt, Keates, Russell, Forrester (Donaldson), Webb, Melton.

Meanwhile, the juniors are without a win after two games this season. After drawing 1-1 with Hartlepool on the opening day, they went down 4-1 at Lincoln on Saturday. Billy Russell's side will be looking for their first 3 points when they go to Grimsby in two days' time.
