City had led through Stuart Green's sweet 33rd minute strike, but Scott Wiseman was accused of a push in the box in the 89th minute and a penalty was awarded to the home side. Tommy Smith scored it to make it 1-1, which is how it finished.

The result was of little consequence to either side though, who now both have 50 points from 44 games. There were more significant games going on for the bottom three, whose fates were all decided today.

4th from bottom Sheffield Wednesday saved themselves from relegation by winning 2-0 at Brighton, who are relegated. Crewe could only draw 1-1 with Cardiff, while Millwall went down 2-0 at Southampton. The Railwaymen and the Lions both go down, and have nothing left to play for now with Wednesday 9 points clear of the relegation zone with 2 games remaining.

QPR slip to 20th after losing 3-2 at Norwich, so City and Derby move up to 18th and 19th respectively. Both teams are a point behind Leicester, who drew 1-1 at Coventry today.

At the top, Reading break the 100-point barrier by beating Stoke 3-1. The Royals, already guaranteed of 1st place, now have 102 points.

Watford go up to 3rd after beating Ipswich 2-1, while Preston's 2-0 win against Wolves puts them 4th. Leeds can go above them both though if they win at 2nd placed Sheffield United tomorrow. 6th placed Crystal Palace drew 0-0 at Burnley.
