Kerr suffered the back injury shortly after joining from Bradford in the summer, making just a handful of pre-season appearances before being stuck in the treatment room.

However, surgery was succesful and after returning to training he played 45 minutes today.

The match itself ended 0-0. City's best chance came in the 7th minute when Rob Matthews won a penalty, but Rodney Rowe saw his spotkick saved by Hollund.

Both teams had numerous chances but failed to convert them, so it ended goal-less.

Tigers coach Rod Arnold said: "We had a lot of young lads in and they stood up well to Hartlepool who fielded a few of their first team players.
"With the wind blowing straight down the pitch conditions were difficult but we handled it well and the performance was good.
"Hartlepool probably had more of the game in terms of possession but in the end we were worthy of a point."

City line-up: Glennon, Morley, Burton, Mohan, Fenton, Matthews, Bowsley, Kerr, Peat, Dixon, Rowe.
Subs: Harvey, Hudson, Turnbull, Tomlinson, Crutwell.
