Joseph got the injury in the 68th minute of yesterday's win against Bournemouth. He stooped to head clear a cross but was hit by Steve Fletcher's knee. Both City's physio and the club doctor were called onto the pitch to see to the 27-year-old before he turned down a stretcher and walked off to be replaced by Leon Cort.

It's now been uncovered that the centre back has a perforated eardrum which could sideline him for around 6 weeks. It may also require an operation and could affect his long-term hearing, but the extent of the injury hasn't been revealed.

Cort is the obvious replacement to parter Damien Delaney in defence while Joseph is out, although he is lacking in match fitness after being injured himself over pre-season. Richard Hinds or Junior Lewis could also move to centre back, but Alton Thelwell has a cartilage injury.
