The City boss said: "Simon does look to have the necessary physical attributes and we will have him at training and look at him further. From what I saw he probably will be strong enough but I have to be sure."
Johnson is yet to make his league debut but could go straight into Molby's squad at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday if Gary Alexander does not recover from an ankle injury.
He is also likely to feature for City's Reserves when the new Avon Insurance League season kicks off on 21st August.
