City went behind on the half hour mark when Danny Boxall played a long pass for Giuliano Grazioli. While the City back four stopped looking for offside, the linesman's flag stayed down and Grazioli ran through to beat Glennon.

Things went from bad to worse when captain Greg Strong was dismissed in the 78th minute for an off-the-ball clash with Paul Tait.

But the Tigers clawed their way back and found an equaliser five minutes from time, with substitute Simon Johnson getting a debut goal.

Stuart Green played a ball down the left, Stuart Elliott crossed and Johnson was there to strike it past Howie and save the defeat.

City manager Jan Molby said: "We finished on a high note which is very important and the second half performance was excellent.
"I thought we played at a real pace after half time. The players pushed themselves and that's what it took to get back into the game. We looked a different side."

City line-up (4-3-3): Glennon; Edwards, Anderson, Strong, Smith (Whittle 80); Greaves (Price), Ashbee, Green; Dudfield (Johnson 60), Bradshaw, Elliott.
Un-used subs: Musselwhite, Williams.
