Hull City striker Caleb Folan has begun his trial spell with Colorado Rapids by scoring the winning goal in a pre-season game against LA Galaxy.Folan, 28, headed to the United States last week for talks with several clubs after falling down the pecking order at the KC Stadium.

The Republic of Ireland international became Hull's first-ever ?1m signing in 2007 when he joined from Wigan.

He has made 64 appearances for the Tigers, scoring 12 goals.

City assistant manager Craig Shakespeare said: "He's gone to have a look at them as much as them having a look at him and we've granted permission to do that."

Folan lined up against a Galaxy team without David Beckham, but featuring former Premier League players Landon Donovan and Juan-Pablo Angel.

The former Chesterfield striker has been hampered by injuries during his stay at the KC Stadium, with his last appearance coming in the 1-1 draw at Barnsley on 30 October, when he suffered a knee injury in a collision with Tykes keeper Luke Steele.
