Hull City Masters Team Revealed

Last updated : 10 June 2009 By Andy Beill
Hull City compete with Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Doncaster Rovers and Barnsley in the Screwfix Yorkshire Masters Cup on Saturday 18th July at Sheffield Arena (tickets already on sale).

In goal for the ex-Tigers will be Steve Wilson. "Bransholme's number 1" made 220 appearances in ten seasons before spells with Macclesfield and Tranmere. Dropped into non-league with Worksop Town, Mossley and Hall Road Rangers and is now playing for North Ferriby United, aged 35.

His manager at Church Road, Neil Allison, is also in the Masters squad. The defender made 124 appearances for City, often in front of Wilson, and the 35-year-old is now player/manager of Ferriby.

Allison's assistant, John Anderson, is another defender in the squad. He made all 45 of his appearances for City in the 2002/03 season, winning the official player of the year award. Transferred by Peter Taylor to Bristol Rovers then returned to coach at Hull City's centre of excellence and now Ferriby, aged 36.

At 43 years old, Garry Parker is the oldest member of the squad announced so far. He scored 9 goals in 95 appearances for City (1986-88) before going on to play for Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Leicester City, for whom he appeared in a previous Masters tournament.

Trainee winger Leigh Jenkinson, now 39 years old, scored 15 goals in 167 appearances before being sold to Coventry in 1993. He then joined St Johnstone in the Scottish Premier League and was capped by Wales against Brazil. This won't be his first appearance in a televised competition: during his spell with the Tigers he sprinted in a race between footballers for an ITV programme.

35-year-old Duane Darby will be hoping to be amongst the goals again in a Hull City shirt. He was top scorer in both of his full seasons with the club. He now plays for Hednesford Town, the non-league team that knocked Hull City, featuring Darby, out of the FA Cup in 1997.

Also in attack is 34-year-old John Eyre, who likewise finished as top scorer in both seasons spent at City, before moving to Oldham.

2 more players are yet to be added to City's final 9-man squad.

Ex-Tigers will be amongst the opposition as well. Gary Brabin and Lee Butler are in Doncaster Rovers' squad, while forward John Pearson and defender Ray Wallace will appear for Leeds. Full squads are yet to be announced.

If City progress to the Finals they could be up against Dean Windass's Middlesbrough, who have already won the Northern Masters section, in which Martin Carruthers (Darlington) and David Brightwell (Carlisle) also played.

David Norton will appear for Aston Villa in the Midlands Masters, Ray Parlour for Arsenal in the London Masters and Lee Philpott for Leicester in the Central Masters
