Harper, a summer signing from Sheffield United, has been troubled for some time by the problem, which forced him out of Saturday's 2-1 win at Watford, and faces a late fitness test.
Goalkeeper Brad Guzan played his last game for the Tigers at Watford and has returned to parent club Aston Villa so Matt Duke, recently recalled from his loan spell at Derby, is expected to return to the starting line-up.
Boss Nigel Pearson, whose side have won their last four away matches, has no other new injury or suspension problems as the Tigers, five points adrift of the top six in 10th place, look to make up further ground on the play-offs.
