Going Down?: City Staring At Relegation

Last updated : 22 April 2010 By Andy Beill

Wigan, 0-2 down to Arsenal on Sunday, staged an astonishing comeback in the final ten minutes to turn the game around. Ben Watson pulled one back in the 80th minute, Titus Bramble equalised in the 89th, and Charles N'Zogbia scored the stunning winner in stoppage time. They go above Wolves into 15th place.

Liverpool strolled to a 3-0 win against West Ham on Monday. The Hammers are without an away win since the opening day of the season. However, it will be home form they need when they play Wigan on Saturday.

Hull City had the chance to go level on points with West Ham by winning their game in hand against Aston Villa last night. It wasn't taken; they lost 0-2.

It now looks increasingly like a case of when City will be relegated and not if. Falling a further three points behind West Ham on Saturday would make it a foregone conclusion due to a much inferior goal difference, but the bracketed 'R' won't appear beside Hull City's name on the league table until either of the final two games.

When Wigan go to West Ham on Saturday, a win for either team could secure their safety, although in Wigan's case it would purely be an academic matter and in West Ham's it depends on how Hull City do and will still be another week until technically confirmed. City's game is at home to Sunderland, strugglers on the road this season without an away win since the opening day.

Burnley could be down if they lose to Liverpool on Sunday.
