Following the departures of Frank Barlow and Stuart Ayles, Parkinson has needed reinforcements, and that comes in the shape of Phil Brown. He's been appointed as first team coach. A new fitness coach is yet to be appointed.

Brown was a coach at Bolton Wanderers, and even enjoyed 4 wins in 5 games as caretaker manager in 1999 until Sam Allardyce took over. He continued as a coach under Allardyce until getting the manager's job at Derby last summer. He was sacked midway through the season, leaving the club 6th from bottom and knocked out of both cup competitions.

He's noted for his modern thinking and use of new systems such as Prozone.
