Although Scunthorpe are now looking elsewhere after Ellison turned down a £100,000 transfer, Adam Pearson has confirmed that League One clubs Bristol City and Tranmere Rovers are also showing interest. Tranmere may suit the Birkenhead-born winger so he can return to his Merseyside roots.

He could be one of a number of players to go as City look to cut down the size of the squad and make room for new signings.

Chairman Adam Pearson told the Hull Daily Mail: "We're looking at 22 players next season. I don't think that will happen overnight but over the next six months we'd like to get down to that.
"It's currently 25. You'd still expect three to four new faces. However, it's very important to me that the squad is given a fair assessment by the new manager before we make changes.
"I don't see anyone else going out at the moment. But we did identify five or six at the end of last season who if we got offers for we would let go. I don't envisage that changing.
"I don't think most of those deals will be done until the players come back for pre-season training at the earliest."

Goalkeepers Boaz Myhill and Matt Duke, defenders Andy Dawson, Leon Cort, Damien Delaney and Alton Thelwell, captain Ian Ashbee, and forwards Stuart Elliott, Nick Barmby and Steve McPhee have all recently signed new contracts, so unless the new manager sees no future for them then they would appear to be safe.

John Welsh, Darryl Duffy, Jon Parkin, Ryan France, Keith Andrews and Danny Coles are also expected to be retained.

Mark Lynch has already been publicly transfer listed, while Robbie Stockdale's contract is being allowed to expire.

Ex-manager Peter Taylor had stated that six strikers would be too many, so two of Ben Burgess, Craig Fagan and Billy Paynter could be available to interested clubs. All three could go if a new star striker is brought in, as Adam Pearson promises "a definite significant transfer kitty there and a definite wages kitty."

Midfielder Stuart Green, one of only three players remaining from the squad Taylor inherited from Jan Molby, may also find himself on the move after inconsistent form and spells in the team over the last two years.

Russell Fry and Scott Wiseman have failed to stay in the manager's plans after coming through the youth system and may have to look further down the leagues to get a real taste of first team football.

Centre back Sam Collins may be fourth choice for a starting place when Coles is fit again, and Cort and Delaney recently signed three-year contracts. At the age of 29, the ex-Port Vale skipper would expect to be a starter.
