The Iron had taken the lead 4 minutes before half time, as Dave Mulligan's corner went straight in via the hand of City keeper Boaz Myhill.

Midway through the second half, substitute Paynter headed in Stuart Elliott's left wing cross to maintain City's unbeaten record over pre-season.
