Jamie Forrester - had second half chance to score debut goal
York had the only real opening of the first half. After Ian Ashbee lost the ball, City's defence was cut open and Peter Duffield found himself with a free shot from 8 yards. As the linesman's flag stayed down, Duffield was guilty of firing over.

Early in the second half, Jamie Forrester came close to getting a goal on his debut. Stuart Elliott crossed in from the left, and Mike Ingham kept out Forrester's first time shot from close range.

City had a number of corners while York also had good possession, but neither side were able to create any clear cut opportunities, so the match ended in a goal-less draw in front of an 18,437 crowd at the KC Stadium.

City line-up (4-4-2): Musselwhite; Regan, Anderson (Whittle 45), Joseph, Holt (Melton 45); Green, Ashbee, Delaney, Williams (Webb 76); Forrester, Elliott.
Un-used subs: Fettis, Jevons.
