The transfer fee is £150,000, with more payable depending on appearances, rumoured to be £1,000 per match.

It is technically the fourth time City have signed the Hull-born forward. He was signed on YTS forms as a youngster before being released without making a first team appearance. He joined local non-league side North Ferriby United before returning to City, making his league debut in 1991. He left for Aberdeen in 1995 and would go on to play for Oxford, Bradford, Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and then Bradford again. He signed for Hull City for the third time in January on loan from the Bantams after over 11 years away.

Windass now signs a two-year deal with the club - the first under the reign of new Chairman Paul Duffen.
